Reaching out to each worker makes organizing successful
A union of fiscal year-termed appointed employees in Hioki City has successfully increased its members by appealing to each worker about the need for a stronger union.
A vice president of the union has made efforts to organize her colleagues at a public hot-spring resort called Yupuru-Fukiage.
Following the city authority’s decision to close a similar accommodation facility by March 2025, she tried to unionize the workers, telling each and every one of them that a stronger union must be built now to protect their facility from cuts in public services.
She persistently reached out to the ones who hesitated to join the union, informing them of its mutual aid system which provides congratulatory or condolence benefits. As a result, she unionized almost all of her colleagues and increased the number of union members from several to a few dozen.
The vice president said, “I will do my best to get everyone into the union.”
